Medical Benefits Of Cannabis! Seriously, for real!

marijuana leafA lot of us are still against the use of marijuana (cannabis) for medical purposes but what if it could save your life someday. Would you still be against it? Most of us have been conditioned at an early age to believe that marijuana is bad for our health and for that reason we are unaware of the medical benefits of cannabis. The conventional medical industry likes to list cannabis as a drug. However, it’s actually an herbal plant that has been used as a natural medicine in many countries for millennia.

For thousands of years, this herbal plant has been used to treat all sorts of disease, but for the past century it has been heavily regulated by governments throughout the world, especially the US government. Politicians who support the legalization of cannabis don’t want it to be legalized because they think it’s too dangerous on the street. The problem with this claim is that even though cannabis is illegal in most countries, it’s still widely used throughout the world and yet deaths due to the actual use of cannabis are rare.

Cannabis Deaths versus Cigarette Deaths

According to a 2010 annual statistic of deaths in the US from, there is no recorded death associated with the use of marijuana. The annual deaths related to the use of cigarette and secondhand smoke are more than 440,000. Even though there is no recorded death related to cannabis, it would be logical to say that cannabis has been linked to some deaths due to users abusing and mixing it with other drugs. However, compare to cigarette marijuana is a lot healthier.

Even though death associated with marijuana is rare, why is it that this herbal plant is illegal? To truly understand why there are laws forbidding the use of cannabis, you need to understand how the pharmaceutical industry (Big Pharma) operates from behind the scene. The pharmaceutical industry makes money by treating sick people and as a result it can’t thrive in a society full of healthy people. Since marijuana rarely cause chronic illnesses, it’s despised by Big Pharma. On the other hand, it loves cigarette because this carcinogenic drug drives in a lot of profit for the pharmaceutical industry.

Medical Benefits of Cannabis

Within the past decades, marijuana has become very popular in the scientific field of alternative medicine, which is why more scientific research is being published on the healing features of cannabis. Today this herbal plant has been used to treat over 200 diseases, including but not limited to Alzheimer’s, epilepsy, glaucoma, arthritis, chronic pain, autism, anorexia, insomnia, nausea, seizures, migraines, depression, anxiety, multiple sclerosis, hepatitis C, cancer and HIV/AIDS. Out of this list cancer is one of the most deadliest health conditions, which is why cannabis researchers have been doing scientific tests to see if marijuana can cure it. Some of their studies have found that certain natural chemicals in marijuana may actually stop the growth of cancer cells. The many medical benefits of marijuana are the reasons why Big Pharma despises this natural herb.

In the US, the country with one of the most strict laws on cannabis, the healing benefits of medical marijuana are attracting so much attention that since 1996 over 20 states have legalized it for medical use. Recently Colorado became the fist state to legalize it for recreational use. The movement to legalize this natural herb is even more popular in other countries, which is why in late 2013 Uruguay became the first country to legalize the selling, growing and smoking of marijuana.

The Problem With Most Cannabis

Most growers of cannabis like to use pesticides and other unhealthy chemicals to help grow their marijuana plants. Some researchers have found that some marijuana contains pesticides at levels 60 times more than the amount used on conventionally grown spinach. The problem with these chemicals is that they are hazardous to your health and environment. To make matters worse, some of the chemicals cause the herbal plant to grow faster than normal, resulting in a lack of healing nutrients and making it more susceptible to disease. In addition, a good volume of these harmful chemicals are absorbed by the herbal plant, making it nearly impossible to clean or extract the chemicals out of the cannabis plant.

When the cannabis plants are harvested and the buds are sent to dispensaries or marijuana stores, they are still contaminated with significant levels of harmful chemicals. A healthy cannabis user may not feel the effects of these chemicals in the short run, but in the long run it may cause health problems. As for a sick person, these chemicals may make their illness worse. To avoid these chemicals, it’s wise to use marijuana that is grown organically or without the aid of harmful chemicals. If used correctly, this type of marijuana can help you deal with certain illnesses.

Ingest a naturally grown plant for health benefits or a manufactured pill/treatment from the people who profit from your ill-being. The choice is clear to me. A similar post,

” However, it’s actually an herbal plant that has been used as a natural medicine in many countries for millennia.”
Caffeine is also natural. Doesn’t mean its not a drug though. And check this, so is opium. Do I need to go on? How about something related to caffeine? Theobromine. Look it up.
A drug is defined as this:

Pharmacology . a chemical substance used in the treatment, cure, prevention, or diagnosis of disease or used to otherwise enhance physical or mental well-being.
Any article, other than food, intended to affect the structure or any function of the body of humans or other animals.

    Among other definitions.

    Alcohol is also a drug.

Sorry, but cannabis is a drug, plain and simple.

And for the record: I’ve always been against the ‘war on drugs’ and that goes for ALL drugs, even amphetamines, opiates, ecstasy, … Having a war on drugs only fuels violence, profits the criminals and benefits no one but the criminals. The black market exists because it CAN exist (what do you think it looked like with prohibition of alcohol in the US ?). So no, it isn’t that I’m against marijuana (even though I hate smoke, go figure since I’m asthmatic… and even then cigarette smoke is far worse for that, in experience from concerts where both have been used near me.. different concerts, mind you) and that’s why I’m calling it a drug. I’m calling it a drug because IT IS A DRUG!

As for your other article and it mentioning dosage as the key, I suggest you look up ‘drug tolerance’ (not to be confused with addiction which is not to be confused with chemical dependency). And imagine that, cannabis, given what it is, helping anxiety. Unbelievable. /sarcasm
